A combination social media driven PrEP diffusion of innovation intervention for young Black MSM and Transwomen

ABSTRACT:
Dr. Schneider will present the foundational work that led to led to the development of PrePChicago - a multimedia/Facebook diffusion of innovation intervention aimed at increasing PrEP uptake.  This NIAID funded intervention enlists peer change agents who are selected based upon several strategies including their sociometrically defined structural positions (ie bridging).  PrEP uptake among index clients and their networks is the primary outcome with several other pre-PrEP care continuum metrics as secondary outcomes. An ambitious randomized controlled cross-over trial design will be used to test the intervention that is simultaneously nested/coordinated within a concurrently implemented large-scale multi-media PreP campaign in Chicago.  If successful, implementation of such an intervention is expected to be of high impact and accelerate movement towards HIV elimination.
